Picture day: curls without the hot wand near her neck

5 reasons that line finally gets a check mark, and my own curls do too.

LOCKA by LINTEL · 3 min read

Picture-day flat lay: a school shirt, a bow, a small backpack and the LOCKA curler

Every picture day I held a hot wand an inch from her neck and twisted it by hand. She flinched, I rushed, and my own hair went up in a clip again.

This is the list I make now.

Curls without the hot wand near her neck

A regular wand leaves the turning, and the heat, to me. The bare barrel is right there, an inch from her skin, while I try to get the angle right.

LOCKA: the hot barrel stays inside the housing. The insulated, slotted housing goes around the ceramic-coated barrel, so the hot part stays inside while her hair turns. I always do it for her, and she doesn't flinch anymore.

  2. A lock of hair wound inside the LOCKA slotIt turns by itself

I slide in a section. It turns by itself.

Twisting a wand at the right angle, on someone else's head, is a skill I never had. Half her curls went the wrong way.

Now I slide a section into the slot and press left or right. LOCKA turns the hair by itself, so each curl gets the same wrap, on her and on me.

My curls too. It beeps when each one is ready.

My hair was always last on the list, and by then there was no time. Into a clip it went, again.

LOCKA beeps when each curl is ready, so I'm not counting seconds or guessing. That's how I get to the back of my own head before we leave the house.

Turned down for her hair, up for mine

Her hair and mine aren't the same, and one fixed heat for both never felt right.

LOCKA has 3 heat levels: 320°F, 356°F and 392°F. Lower for her, higher for me. Same curler, same three steps, pretty curls on both of us before we leave the house.
